Okay here's the deal, I have a report to do for one of my classes (interpersonal communication). And I need to talk to someone that is from a different culture than I am from, and I must write an essay about it.
What I need is someone that is from a different culture than mine, which is America or American culture, I don't think any sub-cultures will do, if so I would ask an African American, because I'm white.. get what im saying? So it can't be an American sub-culture.
Anyone want to help me out with this?? It would be much appreciated. If you do please let me know, cause I will have a few questions to ask for the paper.. Thanks!:)
Its just a couple of questions about how other cultures are different from my own.
EDIT: never mind, i see you are from Australia.
Okay, here are the questions i would ask.
1. How does your culture view the roles of men and women?
2. Are members of your culture concerned more with needs of the individual or the needs of the group?
3. How do members of your culture view authority figures?
4. How are children treated in you culture? How are the elderly treated?
5. What are some of the primary values of your culture?
6. Where would you anticipate finding problems in interactions between your culture and my culture?
That's like the main questions we are suppose to ask. But if you can think of anything else along those lines it would be helpful. O and BTW, it cant be focused on differences in language, food, dress, etc. except if they influence values, communication, etc.
That sound okay to you?
EDIT2: O and if you do decide to do it, could you try to be as descriptive as possible, I know I'm asking a big favor, but i don't know anyone that is straight up from a different culture than my own. I only know people whom were born in other countries, and moved here at a very early age, too early to be able to tell me the things I need to know.
I can do a degree. I wouldn't have a clue how the majority of Australians think. I am however, from a dutch background. Dutch reformed, in fact. And so I have the views of the church influencing my "culture". Is that okay that I reply in regards to how we in the Free Reformed Churches of Australia (Stemming from Dutch Reformed churches) see the answers to those questions? Or you need a race/nation more than just a different culture?
I believe that will work just fine, I mean I'm sure its different than my culture in ways. That's the whole point of this "essay" is to get an idea of another culture that isn't my own.
