Ok so like. There's a "new"-ish virus out. It was released in 2008 and apparently brutal and damn near impossible to get rid of. It uses the holes in Windows to take down your machine, and it attacks your windows restore feature to make it harder to restore anything.
It's a really bad virus, that's getting an update on April 1st that'll make it even worse.
It's can transfer through networks on it's own. It can even infect a USB Flash/jump drive and transfer itself onto new computers, DO NOT LET ANYONE PLUG ANY USB DRIVES INTO YOUR COMPUTER UNLESS YOU KNOW IT'S SAFE!

Anyways, it's spreading rapidly through P2P programs, so stop using limewire and frostwire folks.

The virus is so bad that Microsoft is actually giving out $250,000 to anyone who turns in the writer of the virus, heh.

Here are a few articles, read them and stay safe guys.
(Btw, It's call Conficker, also known as Downloadup)

The Conficker Virus

Once this virus infects a computer it does a number of things including:

* Extracts all of its files to the %System% directory with random DLL file names, which can wreak havoc on your computer.
* Deletes the user's Restore Points.
* Registers a services called Netsvcs
* Creates scheduled tasks that execute all of the DLL files.
* Creates it's own simple HTTP server on the infected computer and spreads the worm to other computers in the network through file shares.
* Creates an Autorun.inf file in file shares to execute the warm files once the share is accessed by another computer.
* Connects to external sites to download additional files.

FALSE!
There are known mac viruses ;p. They're small harmless viruses that just mess with your files'n such.
But like I read, the reasoning is because Mac isn't as popular as Windows (not yet anyways) and there's no need for "marketing" major viruses on Mac or Linux Machines for that reason.
Not only that, at least 80% of Linux users are knowledgable with Linux making it harder for a programmer to program a virus effective against Linux anyways.

In fact:
First (known) malware for mac

First known "rogue" Virus to a Mac (Yea, dangerous)<--- Click it

Compared to PC viruses (1,122,311 according to symantec in 4-11-08) you may as well round the 40 known viruses for Mac down to zero!

But like i said before, its nearly as hard to find the software u need for a mac as it is to find a virus. I got my mac mainly because of the lack of viruses but i'll be honest with u, it's not worth it with the lack of applications and compatibility with pc. it took me two weeks to find a copy of quickbooks that would work on my computer and every time i try to download a cool free game they dont have a mac version. Fuck, I'd take a couple viruses if they just make a version of powertabs for my comp!!

Anyway, i think its cool of you to warn everybody about it, sry for gettin a little off topic tho, lol

Yea, there aren't many Mac viruses as of now. If Mac keeps getting more and more popular, though. You can bet on mac viruses increasing rapidly over a short period of time. Especially if they ever drop their prices.
I personally don't like the Mac OS. Even though it's "more stable" then Windows, I still don't like it. Don't like Windows either, heh.
If my Adobe software would run on Linux, I'd never touch Windows again.

No problem. As a comp nerd I tend to keep an eye out for things such as this ;p. And you can bet my machine has plenty of protection haha. In fact, one of my good buddies had an infected machine by this virus. It was causing him all sorts of grief. Luckily, I helped him get rid of it before it's supposedly supposed to do damage.

UPDATE

For anyone whom thinks this is a fake virus, it isn't.

I good buddy of mine was unfortunate to get infected. It was causing him all sorts of problems. Luckily, I came to the rescue ;p. Yes, the virus is removable. I helped him get rid of it, that's good news right? Not so much. I did some more research on it yesterday, and I guess it's good enough to "resurrect" itself. Yikes!
It embeds itself into the computer, creating scheduled tasks. So once it is removed, it'll just runt hat task and reinfect your computer all over again, sadly. So basically, if you get it, you have the chances of never getting rid of it, unless you do a reformat (let's hope that would work).

It can transfer itself from any PC to a USB device plugged in, Flash drive, Ext HD, and probably even your MP3 players. Once plugged into another computer, it'll automatically run and infect that computer too.

Have a Mac? Good job, you're safe ;p. Linux? Safe also, obviously haha.

Anyways, just thought I'd letchya'll know, it is real. I have proof of it's existence, and what it can do.
